• Waiting Reviewed at PopMatters website
author: Christel Loar
Excerpted from review: "On Waiting, Miller again recalls the stars of country’s golden era, but
this time she widens her stylistic palette to include rhythm and blues,
big band jazz, rockabilly, and even a few little touches of Tejano, as well.
Perhaps as a result of her decision to self-produce this album, her voice,
too, is more varied. Though still possessing that depth, strength, and
haunting quality associated most closely in popular consciousness with
Cline, there is clear evidence of Miller’s other probable vocal influences.
Texas Ruby springs to mind on several tracks, as do country pioneer Jean
Shepard, honky-tonk hell-raiser Charline Arthur, and hillbilly queen Rose
Maddox. Whether she’s the sultry chanteuse or the feisty firecracker, it’s
obvious that Jessie Lee Miller knows her musical history."

• A Pleasant Surprise
author: Matti
Jessie Lee Miller was a total suprise to me. This should be there in
the rockabilly genre too! Everyone who likes old time rockabilly, country or
western swing will love this album. JLM is a talented singer with a strong
and beautiful voice. This album is really made with good taste and a big heart.
After doing some research I found out that Sean and Kevin from High Noon
have been there playing on this album too, and somehow I wasn't so suprised about
that... JLM, we want more.
• She's Done It Again
author: Carl M. Nielsen
If I should make a list of what I think is the 20 best releases of 2007
this one would sure be on it. Maybe not in the top, but without doubt somewhere
on the list. It's a bit different from her first album, but just as good. While
the first was straight western swing, Jessie's new album is much more variated,
going in to many styles: jazz, rhythm and blues, modern country, rockabilly
and some quite uniqe mixtures of it all. Of course that makes it less
stylistically exact. But it helps to get to know the songs. Some of the songs
on the first albums have some superficial similarities, some you've got to hear
them a couple of times before they really step into character. On "Waiting" you won't have any problems telling the difference. In that way it is better
than the first one: much richer, much more colourful. There is a strong
spirit of the 50's around it, but without being too much retro. Like seeing
50's music more as a genre than a time-period. I was crazy 'bout the first
one, and still love it. But maybe with time this one will be my favorite
among the two. I don't know. They are too different to direct compare. The
main thing is, that Jessie now has made two smashing albums. Let's enjoy that
without discussing which one is best. I am surprised she has not yet taking
the world by storm. While Norah Jones and Katie Melua are selling millions
of albums, very few people have heard of Jessie Lee Miller. I honestly
don't understand why. Personaly I like Jessie much better than Norah and
Katie. Pleasent and relaxin' to hear, without being too much ...
• Gives me Chills!
author: Jamie C.
Almost every song on this album gives me chills, it's so darn good!
• Amazing
author: John C.
I honestly can't believe how great this CD is. Amazing voice, amazing players,
awesome songwriting. These songs should be all over the radio, and it's a crime
that they're not. Patsy, Hank, Ernest, and Bob Wills and the boys would gladly
came back from the grave just to hear this stuff!
• Sultry!
author: Doug
"Sultry" is a good word to describe Ms. Miller. She has a very cool voice
and there is a whole lot more to this album than Western Swing, although
that category covers a lot of genres anyway. Great musicians behind her and
some classic and classy songs, well worth getting and putting with your favourites!
• A New Star is Rising
author: Carl M. Nielsen
"Now You're Gonna Be Loved" is a wonderfull warm album, with great tunes in the
straight old school of western swing, but inside the limits of the style as variated
as possible, and Miss Miller sure knows how to do everything she gets into. Let's
face it: there's only one Patsy Cline and there will never be another. And also
only one June Carter. No one however talented can replace such personalities.
But never the less, here's a new female voice in western swing, with her own
sweet caracteristics, but a lot of the well known qualities of the old legends.
Do such voices really still exist? Well, try to hear for yourself. I think
you will agree that Jessie is the best thing that has happened to country music
for a long time!
• Queen of the Genre!
author: Jay Peterson
Jessie Lee Miller knows how to bring it! I played her record for some
hard core musician-fans of Western Swing and they were effusive in
their praise! Buy this record. You won't be sorry!
• Tradition, Torch, and Twang
author: Matti
This debut CD from JLM, expertly produced by Sean Mencher, is a
treat in so many ways-a stylistic tip of the hat to her
forebears, yet it's no reinvention of the wheel. Her voice is
reminiscient of the late Texas Ruby, a sultry, feisty alto
pioneer of fifty-plus years ago, and the songs, a mixture of
old and new, blend together seamlessly as though the musical
fingertips of women like Rose Maddox and Jean Shepard are
reached out across time to bless her. Long may she swing!
• She's a firecracker!
author: Adrian Mazar
This is one sultry Texas torch singer! When one listens to the sweet
tones of an artist like the gorgeous Jessie Lee Miller, one must
wonder why this performer is not famous? A cohesive, consistent album
expertly produced by High Noon's awsome Sean Mencher, this disc is
highly recommended for all fans of western swing, country blues and rockabilly.
• .. and we love you too Jessie..
author: Fidel C. Garbajosa
This album is AWESOME. If you like good ole Western Swing, Honky Tonk,
Hillbilly Boogie and some 40s jazz touches this is a MUST listen. Conducted
by magician (and producer) Sean Mencher (I love his work with The
Bourbonaires) and a fine bunch of musicians it's the best country CD
I've listened for a long time.. ENJOY IT..
• Sounds So Good In My Soul
author: Shawn Williams
Miss Jessie Lee Miller is the future western swing performer for the first time ever in 2006.
author: Tamara Turner, CD Baby
With a voice as sweet and clear as Patsy Cline (and a style delightfully similar!),
Jessie Lee Miller delivers some of the most charming and toe-tapping country
western swing of today's yesterday. Classically capturing the light and sentimental
mood of Cline and the clear, hearty jangle of groups like the Texas Playboys,
Jessie Lee Miller's "Now You're Gonna Be Loved" is a gem of an album that
country fans will be raving about.
